The Company

Wyevale Garden Centres originated as a local nursery in Hereford in the 1930's, when plants were sold bare-root by mail order only during the dormant season.

This was before the owner, Harry Williamson visited the United States and saw garden centres operating all year round because they were selling plants surrounded by soil in containers. Swiftly understanding the possibilities for his company, Harry sourced reject jam tins from a local factory to sell some of the first 'potted plants', and opened his first garden centre in 1967.

As well as tins, clay pots and hide pots were used in the 1960's and it was the introduction of inexpensive polythene pots that set the garden centre industry on its feet. Taking advantage of this development, Harry began to open new Wyevale Garden Centres in the south midlands. Today, there are over 100 Wyevale Garden Centres nationwide.

Plants and horticulture are still at the heart of our company, and over 70% of the people who work in our plant sales departments are horticulturally trained, or keen gardeners with over 20 years experience. Each year over 28,000 different varieties of trees, shrubs, bedding plants and houseplants are chosen by our horticultural team who work closely with the UK's top growers and seed suppliers, selecting the very best for our centres.

Gardening today is a wide ranging activity from real enthusiasts who grow specialist plants from seed to families for whom the garden is an outdoor room to decorate and furnish in their own style.

At Wyevale we understand the different needs of our customers so offer a wide range of gardening products from propagation trays, gardening tools and watering equipment to garden furniture, barbeques and outdoor lanterns.

Whatever your style of gardening, you can be confident visiting a Wyevale store that there will be a great range of plants and products to choose from, and our staff will be keen to help you to get the most from your garden.
