Take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th January

Big Garden Birdwatch

This month The Garden Centre Group is backing the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds' (RSPB) latest campaign to record sightings of gardeners' feathered friends. The Big Garden Birdwatch weekend is designed to help raise awareness of the RSPB and its important conservation work.

The charity is inviting people to get involved in the world's biggest bird survey, which provides the organisation with a vital snapshot of the UK's bird population. The annual event, which has been established since 1979, invites people of all ages from all across the UK to spend one hour counting the birds that visit their gardens.

To take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch you will just need a pen and a piece of paper, then during Saturday 28th January or Sunday 29th January spend an hour watching the birds in your garden or park and make a note of the highest number of each bird species seen on the ground at any one time. Then visit www.rspb.org.uk to enter your findings.

Last year (2011) more than 600,000 people took part in Big Garden Birdwatch and counted more than 10 million birds. Please visit www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch for more details.
