Saturday 17th March and Sunday 18th March from 10.30am to 3.30pm
Children are being invited to the garden centre to get creative for their Mums this Mother’s Day.
Staff will be running cupcake decorating workshops in our restaurant for mums with a sweet tooth and children can also get creative and make their own card for Mother’s Day.
We decided to host the children’s activities so that youngsters can create their own Mother’s Day gift.
The chance to decorate your own cupcake and card will cost £2.50 per child and this includes all the materials needed. Additional cup cakes can be decorated for an extra £1.50 each.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Hanging basket nursery tour in aid of charity
Tuesday 22nd May from 11am to 12noon
We are inviting people to get a behind the scenes glimpse of our three acre nursery in aid of the charity Greenfingers.
Nursery Manager, Jamie Downes will host the tour and will lead customers through the three acre nursery, which will be full of more than 14,000 hanging baskets and 100,000 geraniums. People will also have the opportunity to learn more about the plant growing process and discover how hanging baskets take shape.
Plants that will be seen in hanging baskets in the nursery include fuchsias, Million Bells petunias, surfina and verbena.
A place on the tour costs £1 per person, which will be donated to Greenfingers. Tickets are available to purchase from the garden centre’s reception and it is also possible to pay on the day.
Children’s plant growing competition
Saturday 16th June from 10am
We have teamed up with the Pelargonium and Geranium Society (PAGS) to hold a plant growing competition for youngsters.
We are offering children the opportunity to grow their own free geranium (zonal pelargonium) to enter into the competition.
The free PAC. Octavia Hill cuttings will be available for youngsters to pick up from the garden centre from Thursday 1st March until Wednesday 7th March, while stocks last.
They will then have to take care of their cutting by following a simple step-by-step guide written by award-winning grower Ken Abel.
Youngsters will have to return the same plant to the garden centre between 4pm and 6pm on Friday 15th June or between 7.45am and 10am on Saturday 16th June to enter it into the competition. Only plants grown from the free cuttings can be entered.
There will be two age categories for children to enter, up to seven-years-old and eight to 12-years-old.
There will be three winners for each age group, chosen by PAGS judges. The prizes will be garden centre gift cards. First place will receive a £25 voucher, second a £15 voucher and third a £10 voucher. Winners will also receive a certificate.
