Harkness Rose Centre opens
- Award-winning rose grower Harkness Roses has replaced its Rose Store with a new Rose Centre on-site.
- The Centre is a state-of-the-art nursery, equipped with benches and irrigation systems designed to provide an ideal growing environment and to make the roses easily accessible to customers.
- Harkness Roses has more than 130 years of rose growing experience. The Harkness Nursery, which breeds all types of roses, is currently run by the fourth generation of the family, brothers Philip and Robert Harkness.
- The Nursery has bred many famous and well-known roses including ‘Compassion’ and ‘The Princess of Wales’ to name but a few. The Centre contains more than 200 varieties of roses and with roses in full bloom at the moment, there is no better time than now (July, 2010) to come and visit. It’s the perfect place to see, smell and select a rose for your garden.
- The Rose Centre contains even more roses than the Rose Store did, in a wider range of varieties, including modern and old-fashioned shrubs. The display system has been designed for convenient self-selection and to improve the growing environment so that the stock is in peak condition.
- The Rose Centre is really unique, it’s a one-off and we don’t know of any other installation that comes near to matching it for quality and range, not to mention sheer size. Anyone who likes roses will love the centre and, hopefully, anyone that may not will change their mind after a visit.
