Bomber Command event
Sunday 12th September from 1pm to 4pm
- Veterans who served in Bomber Command will be signing greeting cards and fine art prints to help raise money for a WWII memorial.
- Representatives from the Bomber Command Association (BCA) will be on hand from 1pm to 4pm to sign a range of greeting cards and fine prints that are being sold at the garden centre to help raise cash for a WWII memorial, as well as chat to customers about their experiences.
- Actors from the Concordia Theatre in Hinckley will be dressed in 1940s costumes and will be bringing a selection of pictures, artefacts and props from their recent performances of ‘Dad’s Army’.
- Air cadets from 198 (Hinckley) Squadron Air Training Corps will also be on hand to chat to customers.
- To add to this, members of Stanley Opera will be entertaining visitors with a selection of songs from the 1940s at 1.30pm. Seating will be provided.
- The BCA launched a national campaign last year (2009) to raise £3million for a memorial to be erected in London in memory of Bomber Command crews.
