This solanum is grown for its masses of yellow, orange or brilliant red berries which resemble cherry tomatoes but should not be eaten. Prior to this it produces small white star shaped flowers over green lance shaped foliage. It is excellent as part of a Christmas arrangement as the berries look fantastic at this time of year.

It is best grown in a bright room of the house but can also be used as autumn bedding in planted containers before bringing it into the house at the first frosts. It is best placed on a damp gravel tray to raise the humidity or give a regular misting with tepid water.

It is generally trouble free and easy to care for, water just as it is getting to the dry stage and feed with baby bio every 2-3 weeks.

Solanums can look great on their own but are also good mixed in a basket with a hedera (ivy) trailing over the front of the basket and a diffenbachia or dracaena behind for height.
