Staff at two Dorset garden centres are celebrating this month (September, 2009) after recently winning a gold medal at the Dorset County Show.
Galton Garden Centre on Wareham Road in Owermoigne and Wimborne Garden Centre on Wimborne Road West in Wimborne displayed their 'Good Life Garden' at the Dorset County Show in Dorchester on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 and won a gold medal for the display.
David Hollinghurst, Manager at Galton Garden Centre, said: "Our 'Good Life Garden' was designed to inspire people who have limited space to realise that they can still grow their own fruit and veg.
"Members of the horticultural team at both garden centres put a huge amount of work into creating it and we were delighted when we found out that we had won a gold medal."
The garden was designed by Tracey Whalley, a designer and customer at Galton Garden Centre who lives in East Stoke near Wareham. It includes a patio area, as well as raised beds for vegetables and herbs. It measures six metres by three metres and was built on-site at the garden centre before being dismantled and then re-assembled at the show.
Paul Wharmby, Manager at Wimborne Garden Centre, said: "We are very proud of the staff at both garden centres for their achievement and would like to say a big 'thank you' for all their hard work."
As well as David and Paul, members of the garden centres' teams who helped create the garden included Andrew Fosdike and Richard Jenkins, Plant Experts at Galton Garden Centre, David Levick, Horticultural Manager at Wimborne Garden Centre, Dave Hilton, Goods In Manager at Galton Garden Centre and Tina Holmes, Operations Manager for The Garden Centre Group.
